What children eat is an important part of their learning experience; health and progress stem from their eating habits which are established in their formative years at school.
We believe we have a responsibility to assist with the education process through the provision of healthy, wholesome and enjoyable foods – which also meet the ethnic and where possible the dietary requirements of pupils.
Children who have a balanced meal at lunchtime can concentrate better and are more receptive during afternoon lessons. Also sitting down and eating a meal together helps children develop social and interpersonal skills.
We focus on continual improvement to ensure that they enjoy their lunch time meal as well as providing value for the price of the meal. Active, growing children and young people require plenty of wholesome food and regular meals.
At Saint Paul’s, we believe that we can offer something that will satisfy everyone.
Manchester Fayre, our school catering provider, offer a wide variety of lunch options each day, from traditional meals such as roast dinner, or freshly made sandwiches, paninis and filled jacket potatoes. All meals are made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients, which supports their Food for Life served here award, independent verification that they only use farm assured meat, free range eggs, Marine Conservation Society approved fish, and no undesirable additives.
The Catering Manager with their nutritionist plan the menus to ensure popular choices are featured whilst still meeting nutritional standards for school meals which aim to positively influence pupil’s eating habits, for example, crisps, chocolate and confectionery must not be served, pastry and fried items are restricted whilst wholegrains, oily fish and fruit and vegetables must be available.
To give you a flavour of the menu, here is a sample day from the current menu:
Roast beef & Yorkshire pudding with roast potatoes, carrots & green beans
Quorn & vegetable lasagne with wholemeal roll & salad
Filled baked potato (variety of fillings)
Hot panini (assorted fillings)
Pasta King (meat and vegetarian sauce options)
Love Joe wrap (marinated meat served in a wrap with salad)
Assorted sandwiches & wraps
Rice crispie cake with fruit slices
A variety of meal deals are available each day, for example, pupils can purchase a main meal plus a drink for £2.50.
Pupils with dietary requirements can also be catered for with the catering team adapting recipes to ensure a suitable menu choice is available each day.

Free School Meals:
Is your child eligible for a free school meal?
Many thanks to all those parents that have applied for Free School Meals. We have made it even easier to apply and it should take no more than five minutes from start to finish.
Applications are made via the online tool at Manchester City Council, not to the Benefits Section. You can either visit the Manchester City Council website directly or clock the link below:
or via the link on the front page of our ParentApps page.
There are no forms to fill in, you will just need to provide some information and you should get a response within minutes. Even if your child does not want to have a free school meal we would still strongly encourage your application as School will get additional funding for Pupil Premium which is currently worth £935 per year per eligible pupil. School will continue to receive Pupil Premium funding even if your circumstances change at a later date allowing us to invest in additional services.
Any pupil who gains eligibility for free school meals after 1 April 2018 will continue to receive free school meals during the Universal Credit rollout period. This applies even if they no longer meet the eligibility criteria at a later date during the roll-out period. Once Universal Credit is fully rolled out, any existing pupil who no longer meets the eligibility criteria at that point will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their secondary school education.
The school will be notified when an application for a free school meal has been made and we will be able to provide free school meals for a short period whilst the claim is being assessed. If the claim is approved then the child will receive free school meals on an on going basis whilst the parent(s) remain eligible.
